Collective Haul: September 2011

Good morning! It's Friday whoop! It is so dark this morning, 10:30 am and I have to have so many lights on in the house, it's ridiculous! (Hence the bad lighting in the photos)
I have a nice post today (well every post is a nice post!) It's a collective haul:) yay!

I purchased a few products this month but never enough at one time to warrant a haul of its own. So I've decided that I'm going to do collective monthly hauls. If I happen do to a big haul during the month, I will post it separately before the end of the month but most things will be in the collective haul. I know I love haul posts and I think most people do?
My birthday was this month so a few of the things like the Urban Decay palette and some nail varnishes were birthday presents:)

Make-up

Urban Decay 15 Anniversary Palette (This is fab, will be doing a post on it)
Benefit Thrrob Blush (I heard this was being discontinued so wanted to pick it up!)
Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in Recess (Got it on sale for €6.50!)
Catrice Gel Eyeliner in Silver Shuttle and their eyeliner brush.

 Nail Tools

I've been wanting to do more nail art so I picked up a few bits this month that will help with that. Most of them can be gotten really cheap on ebay.
Zoya Remove Plus (I've wanted a nail polish remover container with pump cap, so handy!)
Konad Nail Stamping Starter Kit (It has the stamper, scraper, 1 image plate and 1 special polish)
Little spinny thing full of rhinestones/gems
Dotting tools
Nail art brushes

Nail Varnish
Revlon Facets of Fuchsia
Nubar Violet Sparkle
Nubar Reclaim
No 7 Cheeky Chops (Love those Boots vouchers!)
No 7 Salsa (Boots voucher again!)
Essie Angora Cardi
GOSH Metallic Green
Catrice Beam Me Scotty!

Face Stuff

No7 Hot Cloth Cleanser (Only got this a few days ago but love it so far)
Garnier BB Cream (Smells gorgeous!)

So that's what I've been buying this month. Have you bought anything exciting? Do you like the idea of monthly hauls?

My First Chanel Nail Varnishes!

I know you have probably seen these two particular Chanel shades in a lot of blog posts lately, but here we go again! The two shades that I'm talking about are of course, Péridot and Graphite. As the title says, these are my first ever Chanel nail varnishes. At €21.50 a pop, I debated for quite a while before finally deciding, feck it, I have to get them. One of the negative things I keep hearing about Chanel polishes is their tendency to chip easily. Now, as someone who likes to change their nail varnish every few days, I wasn't really concerned about my polish not lasting a week or more chip free. However, I was worried that the chippage would turn out to be instantaneous and after paying €21.50 for it I would not have been impressed.
Then I came across this post by the lovely Sinéad over at Viva Adonis who suggested not using a base coat to prevent chipping. So I tried it on Péridot.......and no chipping! Result!

First up is Graphite. Just look at it, all silver and sparkly with a slight undercurrent of grittiness. Love it. For this, I decided to wear a basecoat and it chipped! Not a lot but a bit!

After around 4 days, chipping has set in

And next is the stunning Péridot, which is definitely my favourite!
Some (ahem a lot of) pictures of the beautiful Péridot in all her glory(click to enlarge:))

And after 4 days wear there was just some very light tip wear

My conclusion on my first Chanel polishes? These ones were definitely worth the money. While I don't think I'll be purchasing their bog-standard permanent line of colours, when another outstanding colour comes along, I probably will be swayed by the hype and purchase that. Hopefully there won't be any more for a while though!haha!

Wet n Wild Palette No. 738 "Comfort Zone"

I think it's about time I showed ye another of the Wet n Wild palettes! The one in today's post is called Comfort Zone and thankfully left a much better impression than the last one!

This palette consists of browns and greens, which are probably my favourite eyeshadow colours.
The left side of the palette consists of the more neutral browns and the right side of the palette consists of green shades. Like the Wet n Wild Trio, this palette contains colours suitable for brow, crease and eyelid and it also has the addition of a definer shade. The shadows themselves are labeled accordingly, making it essentially a foolproof palette. The back of it also has a diagram and an explanation of how you can combine some of the colours.

Left side swatches                                                                                           Right side swatches

Eye Look Created Using Right Side

I used:
1. UDDP in Eden
2.Mac Paintpot in Bare Study
3. Right side of palette as intended
4.Crease and definer colour on lower lash line
5.Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero on upper waterline
6.Rimmel Glam Eyes liquid liner
7. Lancome Hypnose Mascara

These photos were taken in the evening after wearing this combination all day. You can see where it has started to crease. Despite this I loved the colours on this side of the palette and pretty much wore this look for a week straight!

Eye Look Created Using Left Side

2.Mac Paintpot in Bare Study
3. Right side of palette as intended
4.Crease and definer colour on lower lash line
5.Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero on upper waterline
6. Lancome Hypnose Mascara

This one turned out ok. There was nothing wrong with it, it was just a little bit....lacking. The shades look great in the palette, but on the eye, there just wasn't anything spectacular about the look.

Overall, it's a good little palette to have with very multipurpose and useable colours but I definitely prefer the right side to the left!

Have a great week everybody!

Update (Again!!!)

Just wanted to give a little explanation for my lack of posting lately.
Basically stuff happening in my real life has ensured that blogging is not a priority at the moment.
I miss blogging and I hope to be back in the next few weeks:)

My Autumn/Winter 2011 Nail Varnish Picks

Seeing as today is so windy and the wind is supposed to get worse as the weekend continues, I feel like today is a perfect day to post this post. It feels like summer has been truly blown away!

Whilst I don't believe that you can only wear darker colours on your nails in autumn/winter and brighter colours in spring/summer, I find that personally I just tend to gravitate more towards darker toned nail varnishes in the autumn/winter. But if in the depths of winter I feel like wearing pastels, I will wear pastels!

So I've picked some of my favourite nail varnishes that I'm excited to start wearing now that autumn has kicked in. I've loosely grouped them together in colour groups.

Tag - 15 Weird Facts!

I can't believe that today is the 1st September already! For the first time in my life I'm not heading back to school or college, which if I'm honest is a little bit weird! I feel like I have to be a proper grown-up now!
Anyway, on to today's post. I decided to do one of these question tag posts that has been floating around on youtube and blogs the past while. I think there is a couple of different versions though!

1. What's a nickname only your family calls you?
I genuinely don't have any nicknames! Everybody just calls me by my full, proper name.:( I need a nickname:p
2. What's a weird habit of yours?
Opening shower curtains. Whenever I stay in a hotel, the first thing I will do is open the shower curtains. I've always done this. I can't stand being in a bathroom if the shower curtains are closed!

3. Do you have any weird phobias?
I don't really have any phobias....unless you want to count the shower curtain opening thing?

4. What's a song you secretly love to blast and belt out when you're alone?

It's either Try A Little Tenderness by Otis Redding (Pretending to have a deep soulful voice) or American Music by the Violent Femmes (Rocking out like its the eighties, doncha know?:p)

5. What's one of your biggest pet peeves?
People who park as close as they can to a shop even if it means parking illegally or badly. You know the type, the ones who insist on parking practically in the door of the bloody shop and refuse to walk a couple of yards anywhere. Young, healthy people who are perfectly capable of walking the distance! All that's wrong with them is a case of lazy arse syndrome.

6. What's one of your nervous habits?
I chew on the inside of my cheek when I'm really nervous!

7. What side of the bed do you sleep on?
Righthand side.

8. What was your first stuffed animal and it's name?
Can't recall any stuffed animals, I always had blankies:)

9. What's the drink you always order at Starbucks?
There's no Starbucks near me now that I'm home in Ireland, but when I was in the states I always used to get the Mocha Light Frappuccino. Only 140 calories:)

10. What's a beauty rule you preach, but never actually practice?

Eh I don't think there's any that I don't follow that I say I do?

11. Which way do you face in the shower?
I face both ways? I like both sides to be clean :p

12. Do you have any 'weird' body 'skills'?
I can click some bone in my foot out of place...and sometimes it doesn't go back and it hurts:(

13. What's your favorite comfort food thats 'bad' but you love to eat it anyways?
Chocolate!!!!

14. What's a phrase or exclamation you always say?
Epic!

15. Time to sleep, what are you actually wearing?
Summer-> String top/Huge t-shirt (We do live in Ireland!) and shorts, Winter-> Cosy long sleeved pajamas. I always stock up in Penny's:)

So that's the tag, it's a fun one to do:) I'm not going to tag anybody specifically but let me know if you do it because I want to read it!
